For those of you who have seen the magnet fishing video where I got my finger stuck between two magnets, you will know that I don’t want that to happen again. So I was a little nervous putting a powerful magnet in a big metal machine by hand!
EQUIPMENT
The magnet strength test machine is very high-tech and designed to test all kinds of materials used for industrial engineering. The machine is powerful enough to lift strong Neodymium Magnets off a metal plate extremely slowly by a fraction of a millimeter at a time. While lifting the magnet extremely slowly away from the metal plate the machine measures the strength of the magnetic pull force of each magnet. The important part about having a powerful fishing magnet is that the pull force slowly decreases as it is pulled further away from the metal plate. This indicates a wide power of attraction on the magnet. Each test takes about five minutes as the magnet is lifted slowly from the metal plate a very accurate measurement can be given.
If the pull force of the magnet rapidly decreases when pulled away from the metal plate during testing then it shows the magnet can’t attract metal objects from a distance.
Most magnets adapted for magnet fishing, like double-sided magnets, fail this test. It means you will be missing out on most of the treasures. The field testing I did with the Bondi Magnets range showed that they were amazing at pulling loads of finds out of the canals and the lab results showed on the chart how powerful these magnets were with a very wide area of attraction.
The Nugget
We started the testing with the smallest magnet in our range, The Nugget Magnet. I have always been a fan of The Nugget, it’s small but punches above its weight when it comes to attracting heavy metal. In the canal I was so surprised at the size of the objects The Nugget magnet could lift out of the water so I wasn’t shocked to see the same result in the Lab. It’s slim enough to cut through the mud and powerful enough to keep you busy finding treasures. The lab results showed for such a small surface area The Nugget had lots of power.
The Jackpot
Next up with took The Jackpot Magnet out of the box and attached it as slowly as we could to the strength test machine. With a bigger surface area than The Nugget Magnet, I could feel the extra strength of The Jackpot as it attached to the metal plate. I’ve always said that The Jackpot is a great starter magnet that will keep you busy for years if you don’t want to increase the size of your magnet. The performance shown on the machine was great to see as it clearly showed a slow decline of pull force the further The Jackpot was pulled away from the metal plate. I can’t rate The Jackpot Magnet high enough, it passed the strength test with flying colours!
Bondi Gold
It’s no secret that The Bondi Gold magnet is the magnet I use the most, that’s why it has my name on it after all! So I was nervous about attaching this powerful magnet to the strength test machine and even more nervous about seeing the results. I felt like I was going to get my School report. I’ve had so many amazing magnet fishing adventures with The Bondi Gold Magnet that to me, it is worth its weight in gold. The strength test proved that it is not made of gold though, this is one very strong magnet made from some high-quality rare earth Neodymium. The screen had to enlarge a few times as the strength indicator on the computer rose higher and higher on the chart. Although I’m proud of all the magnets in the range I was extra proud to see the next level results of The Bondi Gold Magnet. No wonder I love this magnet: the results were literally off the charts!
El Dorado
Time for the 4th and final test of the day. I have a bit of practice under my belt attaching magnets, but I’m still not sure if I want to attach the El Dorado magnet to this machine! The sweat increased as I brought the El Dorado closer to the metal plate until a very loud bang confirmed the magnet was very much attached. The magnet has to be centered on the plate, but as hard as I could try, the El Dorado would not budge. In the end we decided to leave it up to the machine to do the work. For me this proved already that the El Dorado is the very strongest magnet out there. But of course, we ran the test anyways and the results did not surprise: the El Dorado has an extrordinary pulling force, and it is definitely the strongest fishing magnet on the market. Now you know what you’re getting yourself into!
Conclusion
The day of strength testing the range of magnets was interesting. The lab results confirmed my experiences testing these magnets in the canals and so we know you will be very happy with our range of fishing magnets. We want to make sure everyone enjoys the incredible hobby of magnet fishing by having the right gear to make finding more treasure easy. So now all the testing has been done for you, all you need to do is choose your magnet. Will it be The Nugget, The Jackpot, The Bondi Gold, or The El Dorado?
